Charles Krauthammer on the Changing Face of America: Increasing Dependency on Government Has Always Been Liberals' Strategy

On Monday night, Bill O'Reilly said that traditional America can make a comeback, disagreeing with a statement made on The Factor last week by Dennis Miller.

Last night, O'Reilly tackled the subject with nationally syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer. The two discussed how the majority of Americans now seem to be in favor of a bigger government that provides them with more and more benefits.

Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney shied away from making this point following

the controversy created by a leaked video of his 47 percent comment.

"He was open to attack and then he just ran away from that," Krauthammer said, pointing out that President Obama is following in line with the longtime liberal strategy of increasing dependency on the government to win over voters.

  • "I'll give you one example of what's coming up. Obamacare will now subsidize insurance for families making up to four times the poverty rate. That's 91 thousand dollars per family in some states. Once you're subsidizing people at 91 thousand dollars, you're subsidizing everyone. And that's the point (of what) liberals want to do. The more you make more people dependent, the more you have your constituencies, the more they re-elect you. And that's the strategy," he said.

Krauthammer went on to say that the notion that Republicans are "demographically extinct is nonsense," believing that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has a chance to turn the tide in the GOP's favor with Hispanic voters if he's the nominee in 2016.
