READ: Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s Letter of Resignation to Speaker Boehner
Fox News has confirmed that Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), the son of Reverend Jesse Jackson, will resign from Congress. Jackson submitted his letter of resignation to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). Read his letter of resignation below.
Jackson, 47, was re-elected earlier this month, having represented an area of Chicago since 1995. He had been on medical leave from Congress since June, undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
He won re-election overwhelmingly despite not campaigning. Jackson Jr. has also been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over the scandal involving President Obama's vacated Senate seat. Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is now serving a federal prison sentence on corruption charges, one of which being his attempt to sell the Senate seat appointment.
