Remembering Actor Larry Hagman: Fox News' Catherine Herridge Shares Her Personal Story

Larry Hagman was known for playing the villain, J.R. Ewing, in the TV series ‘Dallas.’ In real life, Hagman was a hero for championing organ donation and helping patients overcome their fears. The actor passed away on Friday at the age of 81. Fox News chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge shared her personal story involving Hagman.

Hagman would help people by showing them his own scar, or as he put it, “wounds of honor.” Herridge recalled meeting the actor in 2008 with her son, Peter, who had received a liver transplant in 2006. It was Herridge who donated

part of her liver to her son who was only a few months old at the time.

One of Hagman’s greatest legacies, says Herridge, is removing the stigma that the scar can bring. She laughed, remembering how Hagman asked to see both of their scars. “This sort of broke the ice. And he said to me, ‘just make me a promise that when Peter is older, he’s never going to be ashamed or embarrassed by the scar.’”
