Confidential Police Documents Found in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Confetti

The confetti that sprinkled the streets during Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade contained social security numbers and other sensitive information -- details from police papers that were apparently shredded, but not well enough.

Ethan Finkelstein, an 18-year-old college student, joined Fox and Friends Monday morning to talk about how he discovered that the confetti contained private information.

Finkelstein was watching the parade with friends and family on New York’s Upper West Side, when a friend initially noticed that one of the pieces of confetti appeared to have a social security number on it. That prompted them to start looking at the other pieces of confetti, which Finkelstein described, “The information included social security numbers or it’d be a piece of paper that said ‘detective’ and it’d be a name and a social security number on it; license plate numbers, police reports.”

According to Finkelstein, one piece of confetti had details about a pipe bomb on Long Island.

Police have visited his home and taken the confetti that he collected in order to do a thorough investigation.

The police department issued the following statement, “The Nassau County Police Department is very concerned about the situation. We will be conducting an investigation into this matter, as well as reviewing our procedures for the disposing of sensitive materials.”
