Talking Points Memo: Christmas Chaos in Rhode Island
Last year, Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee wanted to ban the word “Christmas” from the Christmas tree lighting at the state house. His crusade to call it a “holiday tree” was a losing battle.
Gov. Chafee’s spokeswoman Christine Hunsinger announced that there would be no Christmas tree lighting in Providence this year – a tradition that dates back 120 years. Less than 24 hours later, Hunsinger recanted and said that there would indeed be a tree lighting, she just doesn't know when.
Tonight in his Talking Points Memo, Bill O’Reilly called the whole ordeal “insane”
and added, “There’s no reason to mess around with the word ‘Christmas.’” In fact, President Ulysses S. Grant signed a law in 1870 that made Christmas a federal holiday.
O’Reilly called out “misguided politicians” like Gov. Chafee for using their power to diminish Christmas.
