What's the Latest on the 'Fast and Furious' Investigation? Bill Hemmer Talks to Lawyer Jay Sekulow
On the 'Because You Asked' segment of America's Newsroom, a viewer emailed Bill Hemmer to ask what is going on in the Fast and Furious investigation, since it has been largely absent from the news in recent months.
Hemmer talked to Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, to bring us a full update on where the case stands now. Many of the guns from Fast and Furious ended up in the hands of Mexican drug gangs and one was used in the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.
Sekulow explained that the reason the ATF's botched gun-running operation hasn't been in the news much, is because it is now in the courts. But he expects developments over the next few weeks, in advance of key Congressional hearings in January. Sekulow said he believes Justice Department lawyers will look to make a deal with House Republicans to bring the investigation to an end.
But to do that, Sekulow said the Justice Department is going to have to turn over key documents that are being pursued by lawmakers.
