Senate Votes to Block Transfer of Gitmo Detainees to the U.S.

Last night, the Senate voted 54 to 41 to block the transfer of Guantanamo Bay prisoners to the United States. This comes one day after a report identified facilities in the U.S. that are believed to be capable of housing these detainees.

Retired four-star general Jack Keane joined America’s Newsroom to discuss whether Gitmo will be closed and if President Obama will veto the measure. Keane said, “I think there’s going to be some pressure, again, to try to close it, which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

We have enemy combatants in there as a result of a war.”

Keane went on to say that Guantanamo Bay is the best option to house the prisoners. "Our detainees are treated far better there than anybody in our federal and military prison systems in the United States."
