Al-Jazeera Buys Al Gore’s Current TV for Reported $500 Million
Pan-Arab news channel Al-Jazeera has purchased Al Gore’s Current TV, extending its reach in the United States and making the former vice president a nice chunk of change!
According to reports, Al-Jazeera paid $500 million for the network, $100 million of which would go directly to Al Gore. They are looking to develop Al-Jazeera America, and the move would increase viewership about nine-fold to 40 million viewers
It may not be an entirely smooth transition for Al-Jazeera America though. Time Warner Cable, the nation’s largest cable company, has already canceled their agreement. The company said in a statement, "Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service. We are removing the service as quickly as possible."
