Lance Armstrong Reportedly Admits to Doping in Oprah Winfrey Interview – What Will It Cost Him?

Lance Armstrong, one of the most famous American athletes, has reportedly admitted to doping while competing in cycling races. For years, Armstrong adamantly denied allegations that he doped. In an upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey, he apparently comes clean about his lies.

During the ‘Is It Legal’ segment on The O’Reilly Factor, legal analysts Lis Wiehl and Kimberly Guilfoyle determined that by making this admission, Armstrong opens himself up to potential litigation.

Cyclist Floyd Landis brought a whistleblower lawsuit against Armstrong, which the Justice Department

is considering joining. Landis and Armstrong were former teammates, until Landis admitted to doping in 2010 and revealed that others on the U.S. Postal Service team had done so also.

Wiehl said that if Landis wins the whistleblower suit, Armstrong could be looking at upwards of $100 million in damages for defrauding the U.S. Postal Service, which sponsored the team using American taxpayer money.

Under the whistleblower statute, Guilfoyle says that Landis would receive a portion of the ultimate reward that is given back to the U.S. Postal Service.

Armstrong is worth around $125 million, and it’s estimated that he has lost $150 million in future earnings. Bill O’Reilly wondered why he’s sitting down with Oprah. Guilfoyle believes it’s because Armstrong is hoping to reduce his lifetime ban on participating in future events.
