Judge Napolitano on New York's New Gun Law: 'It's a Political Fig Leaf Rushed Through the Legislature... and Will Not Make People Safer'
A major part of New York's strict new gun control law requires doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, or social workers to notify authorities if they believe a patient is likely to harm themselves or someone else.
Stuart Varney said he believes this "shifts the privacy line" between doctor and patient and talked to Judge Napolitano about whether the law infringes on privacy rights. The judge said this provision is a result of politicians rushing through legislation, rather than taking the time to study its possible effects.
"This is basically a political fig leaf rushed through the legislature by
Governor Cuomo and Republicans as well as Democrats, because they wanted to create the false impression that they were doing something to keep people safe. In reality, this will not make anybody safer, it will invade privacy and it will give a false sense of security, and that will make people less safe," Napolitano argued.
