Bernie Goldberg Warns Journalists, Compares Manti Te'o Girlfriend "Hoax" to Barack Obama and Rev. Wright
Bernie Goldberg weighed in on the story everyone's talking about on today's America Live. That is, the shocking revelation that the girl Notre Dame star Manti Te'o claimed to date for years never actually existed. While Goldberg said he's willing to believe Te'o was the victim of a hoax, he drew a shocking comparison to President Barack Obama, asking a very pointed question about the state of journalism.
"Which is harder to believe: that a 22-year-old kid fell in love with a make-believe girlfriend ... is that harder to believe than Barack Obama sitting in the pew of Reverend Wright for 20 years and never once hearing the vile anti-American stuff that we all heard on those tapes?" he asked.
"I'm willing to accept that they're both telling the truth, but which is harder to believe? For me, it's harder to believe that Barack Obama sat in that pew for 20 years and didn't hear any of [that]."
The reason for the
lack of challenges from journalists covering such stories? "Journalists will buy into the story when the person telling the story is someone they like," he explained, later adding, "That's the danger: that journalists believe stuff that they should be more skeptical about."
