FBI Joins Search for NY Woman, Sarai Sierra, Who Went Missing in Turkey

The family of a New York woman who disappeared overseas is desperately searching for her. 33-year-old Sarai Sierra went missing during a trip to Turkey. FBI and Turkish police are working to find the wife and mother of two.

She was last seen leaving her hostel in Istanbul for dinner on Monday night. Her passport, clothes and phone chargers were left behind. Family members tell Fox News that Sierra is a photographer who left her Staten Island home to take pictures in Istanbul on January 7th.

She checked in with family members frequently and video chatted with her children daily.

Sierra’s sister received a text from her on Monday morning, but no one has heard from her since. She was planning on returning January 25th, but moved up her flight to the 22nd because she missed her family. When her husband Steven went to pick her up from the airport, she wasn’t there.

Steven Sierra is traveling to Turkey tonight to meet with local authorities. The couple has been married for 14 years. Turkish police tell the family they remain optimistic and have posted posters around the area she disappeared in. New York Representative Michael Grimm said his office is working with Turkish officials to bring her back safely.
