Attorney on American Pastor Saeed Abedini: ‘Eight Years in Iranian Prison Is a Death Sentence’
American pastor Saeed Abedini, who has been jailed for months in Iran, was sentenced to eight years in one of the world’s most dangerous prisons Sunday for being Christian.
Jordan Sekulow, the attorney for Abedini’s family and the executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, joined Fox Report last night. In his interview with Harris Faulkner, he stressed the danger of the situation, saying, “Eight years, it is a death sentence.”
The severity of the torture inflicted on inmates in this particular prison is apparently so extreme that they give the prisoners pain medicine. Guards won’t give it to Abedini as he’s considered “unclean” because of his Christianity.
“He’s been beaten and tortured […] They beat him one day, they treat him nice the next day. They tell him he’s going to hang one day […] It’s really bad abuse. People get killed,” Sekulow said.
Sekulow still has hope, saying, “This is not over, not over at all.”
He pushed for greater cooperation from the State Department, saying, “How about America lead on this. What does that mean? All it means is encouraging other countries that do have diplomatic relations with Iran to tell them, ‘This is serious. You need to let this guy go.’”
