Obama Takes On Immigration Reform: 'Shadow Economy Must Be Brought Into the Light'

In remarks given on Thursday, President Obama took on the issue of immigration reform. The president told a massive crowd in Las Vegas, Nevada that the "call for action can be heard coming from across America."

"The time has come for common sense, comprehensive immigration reform. Now is the time. Now is the time," he said, to a thundering round of applause.

President Obama went on to cite the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in "the shadows."

"They broke the rules ... those are the facts, nobody

disputes them," he said, but adding that those 11 million workers now reside in our nation and earn wages. "[This] shadow economy must be brought into the light so that everyone can be held accountable."

The commander in chief also touched on action he would be willing to take if Congress drags their feet on putting to vote such immigration reform legislation.

"If Congress is unable to move forward in a timely fashion, I will send a bill based on my proposal and insist that they vote on it right away," he said.
