Watch: Al Gore Defends Sale of Current TV in Heavy Questioning by ... Matt Lauer!
For the first time since the controversial business deal that reportedly landed him a huge payday, former Vice President Al Gore is speaking out about why he decided to sell Current TV to Al Jazeera. In an interview on NBC’s Today Show, Matt Lauer questioned why Gore would sell his channel to a company that receives much of its funding from Qatar, an oil-rich country, when he has spoken out against television programs being sponsored by oil, coal, and gas companies in the past.
Gore said, “I certainly understand that criticism. I disagree with it because I think Al Jazeera has obviously long-since established itself as a really distinguished and effective news gathering organization.”
David Bossie, president of Citizens United, reacted on America Live, saying that the deal is simply about Al Gore pocketing $100 million.
“This is an outrage [...] Al Jazeera is the mouth piece for the Muslim Brotherhood. They’re the mouthpiece for Hamas, they’re the mouthpiece for Al Qaeda,” Bossie said.
