Report: 7-Year-Old Boy Handcuffed, Questioned for Hours by NYC Cops Over $5 Theft
Today's New York Post front page shows a shocking photo of a seven-year-old boy handcuffed to a pipe at a New York City police precinct.
An alleged after-school scrap over a missing $5 landed Wilson Reyes in handcuffs, then he was hauled downtown and questioned by cops for hours. His mother, Frances Mendez, eventually arrived and snapped a photo of her traumatized son.
“My son was crying, ‘Mommy, it wasn’t me! Mommy, it wasn’t me!’
I never imagined the cops could do that to a child. We’re traumatized,” Wilson Reyes’ distraught mom, told The Post.
“Imagine how I felt seeing my son in handcuffs! It was horrible. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
Reyes was actually charged with robbery after one of his classmates accused him of taking $5 that he dropped on the ground on Dec. 4. The charge was later dropped.
Police sources claim the case was handled like any another juvenile arrest, and that officers were responding to an initial accusation of Reyes assaulting another boy and taking his money.
