EXCLUSIVE: Mark Kelly and Wayne LaPierre Defend Both Sides of the Gun Control Debate

Former astronaut and the husband of Gabby Giffords, Captain Mark Kelly, and the National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre joined Fox News Sunday in two exclusive interviews. They are on opposite ends of the growing debate over gun control in the battle to curve gun violence in the United States.

Giffords, a former congresswoman, was shot in a deadly Arizona shooting. She and Kelly recently spoke at a Senate hearing on gun violence. Today, Kelly told Chris Wallace, “Gabby and I are both gun owners. I don’t think you’ll find a person that’s a stronger supporter of the Second Amendment than me. I defended the Second Amendment with my life over in Iraq and Kuwait. You know, but this isn’t about the Second Amendment

anymore, this is about public safety. We have 20 first graders die in their classrooms because we don’t have sufficient gun violence legislation.”

More on Gun Control:

NRA CEO LaPierre also spoke at the Senate hearing. Today, he reiterated that, “the most basic right is to protect yourself.”

“Semiautomatic technology has been around for 100 years,” he said. “If you limit the American public’s access to semiautomatic technology, you limit their ability to survive. If someone’s invading your house, I mean, you shouldn’t say you should only have five or six shots, you ought to have what you need to protect yourself, a woman should, not what some politician thinks is reasonable.”
