Group Demands 60-Year-Old Portrait of Jesus at an Ohio Middle School Taken Down

A portrait of Jesus that has hung in an Ohio middle school for more than 60 years may soon be taken down. The Freedom From Religion Foundation and the ACLU say it violates the First Amendment. Hiram Sasser from the Liberty Institute which is assisting the school district with this matter joined America’s News HQ.

He explained that a Christian club put up the portrait in 1947 after one of its members who would’ve been valedictorian passed away from leukemia.

Liberty Institute stepped in free of charge to investigate whether the portrait is allowed to stay. Sasser said, “The Freedom From Religion Foundation sends out about a thousand letters a year threatening lawsuits. But with their small staff and budget, they’re not able to bring a lawsuit in every one of those. They’re counting on school districts deciding that they just want to back down and give in without doing a proper investigation.”
