Sean Parnell, Retired Army Ranger, Remembers Friend and Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle: 'He Was One of the Kindest, Most Compassionate People You'd Ever Meet'

Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL credited with the largest number of confirmed kills, tragically died over the weekend. Kyle was said to be mentoring a fellow Marine and helping him adjust to life after service when he was fatally shot. Eddie Ray Routh, a 25-year-old, was arraigned on two counts of murder after allegedly shooting Kyle and Chad Littlefield at a Texas gun range Saturday.

Sean Parnell, a retired Army Ranger, joined Fox and Friends this morning to remember Kyle. He said, “Chris is probably one of the most kind, compassionate people that you’d ever meet. He dedicated his life to helping veterans readjust from combat and that’s what I want people to take away from this.”

Parnell said that preliminary reports suggest that the suspect may have been from the same hometown as Kyle, and Kyle had been asked to take him under his wing. For those who question why Kyle would have taken someone with PTSD to a shooting range, Parnell said that shooting is so much a part of the lives of former military men and women, that it can be therapeutic. “Shooting with military veterans that are trying to re-adjust can be very healing,” he said.

Parnell said, “While the 99 percent of the nation is focused on the Super Bowl, the real one percent is mourning the loss of one of America’s greatest heroes. It’s hard to put into words.”
