INTERVIEW: Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha Reacts to Being Fourth Living Medal of Honor Recipient

The day that Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha (Ret.) will never forget is October 3, 2009. It was the day that he and his section of 50 other soldiers were attacked by Taliban combatants while on a mission in Afghanistan. It was also the day that he took on and killed three dozen of those combatants, saving many of his own men, and carried fallen soldiers off the battlefield. Earlier this week, Romesha received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.

On this morning's Fox and Friends, he reacted to the high honor of being only the fourth living person to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

"It was just a whirlwind of emotions and just a great experience to be there and share it with a great group of guys who were over there fighting with me," he said, later adding, "At times I can't see myself [as belonging] in that same group of [recipients], but I'm so honored that so many people think I deserve it."

Staff Sgt. Romesha continued, calling out his fellow soldiers who he called heroes, as well. "There are so many heroes, there are so many guys that were there that day who are heroes in their own right, and I just want to applaud those guys ... and I really appreciate the American public and the families back home that support us every day."

Romesha has a family of his own - a wife and three children - of whom he says without their help and support, he couldn't have completed his mission overseas. Still, he says he often thinks about the battle that took the lives of so many of his comrades.

"There's not a day that goes by where I don't reflect on it, but I always, you know, think about the good times we had, the practical jokes that we played..."
