Danica Patrick Makes NASCAR History by Winning the Daytona 500 Pole: Now, Can She Win the Historic Race?

Danica Patrick became the first female driver ever to win the pole position for the Daytona 500 yesterday. She'll start at the front of Sunday's race after recording the top lap of 196.434 mph.

The pole winner has only won the race nine times, and it hasn't happened since Dale Jarrett in 2000. Patrick is set to begin her first full

season on NASCAR's top circuit, driving the #10 Chevy for Stewart-Haas Racing. She crashed at the Daytona 500 last year in her Sprint Cup debut.

On America's Newsroom this morning, Jamie Colby discussed the achievement with Claire B. Lang of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Lang talked about Patrick's confidence and overall chances heading into the race.

"They have a very fast car, everyone in the garage has been talking about that. But there's a lot of pressure on her. ... But she is feeling much more confident this year, more racing under her belt, much more ready to go I think. And she's in very, very good equipment that has been really fast here at Daytona. It is hard to tell at the Daytona 500 who might pull it off but certainly it doesn't hurt to start from the top of the pack," said Lang.
