Debate: Should Smoking While Driving With a Child in the Car Be Outlawed?
Oregon lawmakers met today on a bill that would fine adults caught smoking in a car with anyone under the age of 18. Connecticut lawmakers have discussed a similar bill. Arkansas, Maine, California, and Louisiana already have such bans in place.
So, is the ban a good idea or should the government just butt out?
Kimberly Guilfoyle thinks the child safety issue is paramount. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for a child who doesn’t have a choice to be stuck in a car filled with smoke.”
Greg Gutfeld argued that the issue really isn’t about smoking but about the government interfering in our lives. “Do you want the government telling you what you can do in your car?,” he asked.
Andrea Tantaros concurred, “I actually kind of agree with Greg on this. If they are going to ban smoking in cars, are they going to ban drinking a 16-ounce soda in your car?”
