WATCH: Columbine Survivor Evan Todd Discusses Letter to Obama Opposing Gun Control Proposals
In a letter published Wednesday by The Blaze, a survivor of the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School told President Obama he is wrong on gun control.
Evan Todd was wounded in the attack in which two students killed 12 of his classmates and one teacher, and wounded 22 others.
In his letter, he wrote: "Mr. President, in theory, your
initiatives and proposals sound warm and fuzzy — but in reality they are far from what we need. Your initiatives seem to punish law-abiding American citizens and enable the murderers, thugs, and other lowlifes who wish to do harm to others. "Let me be clear: These ideas are the worst possible initiatives if you seriously care about saving lives and also upholding your oath of office. There is no dictate, law, or regulation that will stop bad things from happening — and you know that. Yet you continue to push the rhetoric. Why?" Todd joined Jenna Lee on Happening Now today to discuss his opposition to Obama's gun control plan, which includes a push for Congress to reinstate the assault weapons ban. Todd said he believes that the proposals would be "more of a detriment than a help" and won't do anything to further protect children in schools.
