WATCH: Sen. Rand Paul on His Decision to Give Back $600K in Unspent Taxpayer Dollars
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) went On the Record with Greta Van Susteren last night, explaining his decision to return $600,000 in taxpayer money to the U.S. Treasury.
The money was allocated to Paul from the federal budget, but was not spent. He said he'd like
to see other lawmakers do the same thing, and talked about his recent proposal before the Senate to encourage civil servants to save money.
"It would give bonuses to civil servants based on them saving money. Right now at the end of the year civil servants try to spend all their budget so they get it the next year.
What I would tell civil servants (is) if you have a 12 million dollar budget and you save a million dollars, I'd give you a raise for saving money," said Paul. Watch the rest of the interview, including Paul's thoughts on the sequestration battle:
