Obama: "I'm Not a Dictator;" I Can't Do "Jedi Mind-Meld" on GOP Leadership to Make Them Agree to Budget Deal
In response to reporter Jessica Yellin of CNN who jokingly asked why President Obama didn't prevent lawmakers from "leaving the room" until a budget deal was reached instead of implementing sequestration cuts, the commander in chief responded by saying, "I am not a dictator; I'm the president."
If Speaker Boehner or Minority Leader McConnell need
to go catch a plane, he said, "I can't have Secret Service block the doorway."
The president added that many people in Washington seem to believe he "should somehow do a Jedi mind-meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right." He added that he thinks he has done all he can do to try to convince Republicans to accept what he believes is a fair deal for both sides.
"Well, they're elected. We have a constitutional system of government. The speaker of the house, the leader of the Senate and all those folks have responsibilities," he said.
