VIDEO: Mitt and Ann Romney's First Interview Since Losing the Election in a Fox News Sunday Exclusive
Mitt and Ann Romney sat down for an exclusive interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. The couple opened up about why they lost the election, what they make of the mess in Washington, and how they’re dealing with a life they didn’t expect to be leading now.
“My heart said we were going to win,” Mitt Romney said. But the realization quickly sunk in for the Republican candidate when the numbers weren't what their team expected in Florida and soon after in Ohio. “It’s hard, it’s emotional. I mean there was such passion in the people who were helping us, I just felt, you know, we’ve really let them down.”
His wife, Ann, admits she's still dealing with the loss and said she's "mostly over it." She said, “I know he would’ve been a fabulous president and I mourn the fact that he’s not there.”

"I totally believe at this moment if Mitt were there in the office that we would not be facing sequestration right now," Ann said.
She equated the experience to the service the Romneys do within their church. “In our church, we’re used to serving and you know, you can be in a very high position, but you recognize you’re serving."
Keeping up a positive attitude, Ann laughed and told Wallace, "The good news is, fortunately we like each other and we like being with each other."
Ann said they were blind sighted by the passion that was coming from the Obama campaign. She told Wallace she was frustrated with the media bias and even the Romney campaign team. “People weren’t allowed to really see him for who he really was.”
Shortly after the race ended, random photos surfaced of Mitt around town pumping gas, hugging Ann in the kitchen, or at Disney with his family. “We were just living our life and obviously people would see us in various places," Mitt said. "Walking along the beach or in this case getting gas for the car and they’d take our their cell phones and take a picture. None of those were done by professional photographers or I might’ve combed my hair seeing them coming.”
The Romneys have since renamed their foundation and plan on helping the poorest children around the world and in America. They’re also spending more time with the grandkids, including two newborn twins. Ann said she was approached by ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and explains why she turned it down.
