"He's a Radical's Radical": Former DOJ Attorney Blasts Thomas Perez Ahead of Labor Secretary Nomination

On Monday, President Barack Obama nominated Thomas Perez to be the next labor secretary in his second-term administration. As a Cabinet member, he would play a key role in the president's efforts to raise the minimum wage and reform immigration laws. However, the nomination is controversial, to say the least, with one former DOJ attorney recently describing him as a "radical's radical." Political analysts like FoxNews.com's own Chris Stirewalt says this is just the tip of an iceberg of a debate that will likely be intense.

"In Washington, we can tell a lot more about someone's intent by what they do than by what they say," Stirewalt began, saying that lately, the rhetoric coming out of the White House has involved reaching out to Republicans and getting past partisan bickering.

"What the president has done today in nominating Mr. Perez to this job is to throw down the gauntlet to Republicans with who, for them, is the embodiment of a kind of activist liberalism that they say is at the core of what's wrong with the Obama administration ... it sends a clear message that Obama 2.0 is still on," Stirewalt said.

J. Christian Adams is the former DOJ attorney who spoke out on Mark Levin's radio show in a recent interview, calling Perez "totally lawless."

"This is a man for whom law is a nuisance ... this is a man who is advancing a radical agenda by using his power in the Obama administration," Adams told Levin.

Of issue for some is Perez's involvement in the New Black Panthers case, in which the Inspector General reviewed the case, supporting an accusation that there is a racial hostility within the civil rights division [of the DOJ] when it comes to enforcing the civil rights laws equally where the defendant in the case is black and the victim in the case is white ... and in particular, that exists under Mr. Perez's civil rights division.
