Are Gun Control Measures in Serious Jeopardy of Not Passing in Congress?
There are growing concerns among gun control proponents that measures that seemed certain to pass after the Newtown school shooting, like background checks, may now be in serious trouble. The Washington Post wrote yesterday, “Despite months of negotiations, key senators have been unable to find a workable plan for near-universal background checks on gun purchases – an idea that polls show nine in 10 Americans support.”
Jonah Goldberg joined Happening Now and said that it’s become clear that “Newtown did not change everything. In fact, it probably didn’t change very much.”
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could bring these measures up for a vote, but according to Goldberg, he doesn’t want to because he’s looking ahead to the 2014 election.
