Michelle Malkin Takes on AP for Nixing 'Illegal Immigrant' From Stylebook: 'This Is Blatant Politicizing By a Supposedly Neutral' Media Outlet

The Associated Press has raised eyebrows this week by deciding nix the term "illegal immigrant" from its official Stylebook. AP explained that "illegal" should not be used to describe a person, but rather the actions of a person.

Here's a portion of the new Stylebook entry on illegal immigration:

"illegal immigration - Entering or

residing in a country in violation of civil or criminal law. Except in direct quotes essential to the story, use illegal only to refer to an action, not a person: illegal immigration, but not illegal immigrant. Acceptable variations include living in or entering a country illegally or without legal permission.

Except in direct quotations, do not use the terms illegal alien, an illegal, illegals or undocumented."

Eric Bolling discussed this development with Michelle Malkin, who highlighted the magnitude of the decision. She explained that the AP Stylebook is used as "sort of the Bible" by journalists across the country, and therefore the AP has the power to "shape narratives."

"What has changed in the last couple of years, where the president of the Associated Press, when she explained this sea change in their language earlier this week, said, well, language is quote-unquote evolving? No, it's not the language that's evolving. It's the political scene, and it's the overtaking of so many of these mainstream, supposedly neutral organizations by people who are transparent activists," she said.

Malkin and Bolling then went on to discuss recent reports about worsening security along the Mexican border. Watch the discussion!
