Rep. Peter King: 'It's in China's Best Interest to Calm North Korea Down'

Tensions continue to rise amid reports of North Korea moving missile launchers to the coast and warning foreign diplomats to flee the country. New video shows leader Kim Jong Un walking with troops and shooting a gun.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY), former chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, doesn't see the need for preemptive action by the United States but warned, “North Korea should know

that they’re not going to get away with a free shot.”

He said, “An attack against South Korea or an attack against Japan is an attack against us.”

King commended President Obama’s actions, saying, “This is making us more of a Pacific power. […] North Korea in effect is giving the United States not just the excuse, but the opportunity […] of moving our assets into the area.”

He noted that if China wanted to, they could reign in North Korea, which depends on China for survival. “No matter how China looks at it, it’s in their interest to calm North Korea down.”
