DOJ to Appeal Judge's Order Making Morning-After Pill Available to All Ages
Justice Department officials say they will appeal a judge’s order to make the morning-after pill available to women of all ages without a prescription. The judge made that ruling three weeks ago, in an order that overruled the Obama administration’s position that the pills should only be available for females age 17 and older. The judge said the administration’s position puts politics ahead of science.
The DOJ’s announcement comes one day after the Food and Drug Administration said it will start making the morning-after pill available to girls starting at age 15 without a prescription. Tonight’s development is unrelated to that decision.
