NY Knicks' "Funeral" Stunt Against Celtics Backfires
The New York Knicks made a point of calling out an expected victory in their NBA playoffs match-up against the Boston Celtics. Just one win away from beating the rival team, the Knicks showed up to the final game wearing black, hinting at what they planned to be the Celtics' demise. Just one problem: the Knicks lost.
Now, sports writers are saying the team looks more like chumps than champs.
"It's bad optics, to put it mildly," Neil told Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy on Friday's Your World.
"It's unfortunate," Shaughnessy agreed. "They haven't won a playoff series since 2000 .... not being able to close out at home when you do a clown show and show up looking like johnny cash - you have to follow up."
But that's not the only blow the team should regret, Neil suggested, adding that "It looks stupid to dress in black talking about a team you're playing that just dealt with the first terror attack" on U.S. soil since 9/11.
