Outrageous? Teen in Jail Over Facebook Comment

As seen on The Five

A Texas teen has been behind bars since March for something he posted on Facebook. Justin Carter, 19, was arguing with someone on the social media site about a video game. A local affiliate in Austin, KVUE, reported that the person called him crazy. According to his father, Jack Carter, Justin then sarcastically wrote:  'Oh yeah, I'm real messed up in the head, I'm going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts.”

Hannity Segment Erupts: "You Accused Me Of Murder!"

In the next two lines, he apparently wrote, ‘LOL’ and ‘jk’ for just kidding.

Carter was arrested and charged with making a terror threat. His father claims it was a “dumb joke.” He could face up to 10 years in prison. Eric Bolling reacted on The Five, saying, “I’m all for free speech, but there’s certain things you can’t do as we’re learning in the George Zimmerman case. You can’t make racist remarks and go ‘just kidding, LOL.’ You can’t call me a ‘white-a** cracker’ and go ‘just kidding, LOL.’”

Bolling concluded that people need to ask themselves, “If I were saying this out loud, how would it sound and then just live by that.”

Greg Gutfeld recalled the teen jailed for refusing to take off an NRA shirt and the boy who was suspended for a pastry-shaped gun. “We need a national holiday to just say lighten up, America. […] This guy said something that was really bad as a joke.”

He said the police could’ve instead visited Carter and checked to see if he really was a threat. Bob Beckel chimed in, “This is another ridiculous example of us going overboard on terrorism and taking it to the degree that it’s getting absolutely silly. I mean, go out and find some terrorists, just leave this kid alone.”

Andrea Tantaros argued that in order for the charges to stand, Carter would’ve needed to have said specifically he was going to shoot up a school and the details of when and how. “This is too vague and the Austin Police Department should be slapped down.”
