Obama: Vietnam Leader Ho Chi Minh Was Inspired by Founding Fathers
President Obama is under fire for remarks he made after meeting with Vietnam’s President Truong Tan Sang, one of the world’s few Communist leaders.
Obama appeared to compliment Vietnam’s late Communist dictator Ho Chi Minh, pointing out that the Vietnam War-era leader was inspired by none other than our Founding Fathers and documents.
He said, “We discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson.”
Fox New Digital Politics Editor Chris Stirewalt reacted on America Live, saying that the president’s remarks certainly aren’t going to go over well for the families of some 60,000 Americans who died in the Vietnam War.
Stirewalt believes that the comments were either a gaffe and that the president didn’t know about the atrocities committed by Ho Chi Minh or that he was being “morally flexible […] to make his guest feel at home.”
