O'Reilly's ObamaCare Debate: Is It Immoral to Hurt Some Americans to Help Common Good?

Millions of Americans will see their health insurance costs rise because of ObamaCare. Tonight on The Factor, host Bill O’Reilly led a debate on whether it’s okay to hurt some Americans to help others.

Talking Points Memo: Will Americans Rise Up Against ObamaCare?

Juan Williams argued that it’s “absolutely right” because it’s being imposed for the common good. “You must remember, Bill, whenever you end a discriminatory system, there are going to be some winners and some losers.”

“Common good – it’s not good for people who are paying higher health insurance premiums and higher deductibles and co-pays. That’s not common good,” O’Reilly challenged.

“Bill, that’s a very small percentage,” Williams disputed. He cited an MIT economics professor who said 80 percent of Americans will see no change.

“I don’t believe that for a second, I think that’s propaganda,” O’Reilly shot back. “That’s what some pinhead said, that’s not a fact!”

Mary Katharine Ham joined the debate, pointing out that the Obama administration pitched the Affordable Care Act as a law that would bring health care costs down for everyone. They also vowed that people would be able to keep their existing doctors – a statement that Ham said is untrue. “It is immoral to make those promises and then break them.”
