UPDATES: Shooting Near Brashear High School in Pittsburgh

Shepard Smith reported on a shooting near Brashear High School in Pittsburgh around 3:00p ET. Three people were shot and the school is currently on lock down. Police are searching for the suspect in the woods off of the school grounds.

UPDATE, 6:10p ET: Bret Baier reported that six people are in custody and currently being interviewed by police. There have been no charges filed and no arrests made. Authorities say it may be drug related.

UPDATE, 5:45p ET: Below is a statement from Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Linda Lane:

Three Pittsburgh Brashear students are being treated for gunshot wounds at nearby hospitals after a shooting between Crane and Lowenhill Avenues. At this time, the injuries appear to be non-life threatening. According to reports, the actors were in a wooded area when they approached the group of students and started shooting.

Although the incident did not occur on school property, Pittsburgh South Hills 6-8 and Pittsburgh Brashear High School were placed on a modified lock down and later dismissed on schedule. Both Brashear and South Hills will be open tomorrow but will be secured on modified lockdown for the remainder of the week. A modified lockdown means that only students, staff, and visitors with a scheduled appointment will be able to enter the school building.

We are taking this matter seriously and focusing on the safety of our students. Our thoughts go out to the families of the victims.

UPDATE, 4:15p ET: According to officials, three students were shot. Shepard Smith reports that it sounds as if they were leaving the school for the day when a gunman, and possibly as many as three gunman, approached the students and shot each of them. One was shot in the leg, a bullet grazed one’s neck or shoulder, and a bullet grazed another’s head. The 17-year-old who was grazed in the head reportedly came running into the school. An administrator pulled the student in and they called 911.

UPDATE, 3:54p ET: The school system’s spokesperson is now confirming to multiple sources that the three people shot are students. None of the injuries to the students appear to be life-threatening. According to a local report, the shooter came out of the woods and started firing. It’s unclear whether the shooting happened on or off campus.

UPDATE, 3:44p ET: According to a local newspaper, the three people shot are students.
