'Real Story' Interview: Busch Gets Set for Racing 'Double' to Support PTSD Awareness

On this Memorial Day weekend, Kurt Busch will attempt to pull off the "double" by running in the Indy 500, then competing in NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 later on Sunday night in Charlotte. The NASCAR star will be doing the 1,100-mile test to benefit our troops, and specifically to raise awareness about PTSD.

Busch sat down with Gretchen Carlson this afternoon to give us some details. He characterized PTSD as a "mental wound" that is making it extremely difficult for U.S. veterans to successfully integrate back into society.

"When I feel like I'm getting behind in the race or I need that drive from within, I'm gonna think of our military and all the freedom we enjoy as Americans comes from a lot of sacrifice," said Busch, who would become the fourth driver to complete the grueling one-day feat.

Things got even tougher for Busch yesterday when he crashed his Indy car during practice. He said he made a "rookie mistake" and is still learning how to handle the Indy cars at the speed of a race.

Busch said he expects that Andretti Racing's backup car will be ready for the big race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

To learn more about Busch's efforts, visit the Armed Forces Foundation's website. You can catch the second leg of the "double," the Coca-Cola 600, on the FOX broadcast network at 6p ET on Sunday.
